"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and the prevention of disease."

1) EXERCISE. Now, just because over-exertion can aggravate the symptoms of Fibromyalgia, it doesn’t mean one should not exercise. In fact, mild to moderate amounts and types of exercise can be helpful in effectively managing the condition. Inflammation is at the root of this disorder, and anything that increases inflammation in the body can increase the pain and symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia. We can help you with an individualized exercise program suited to your needs.

2) DIET. What you put into your mouth greatly affects the amount of inflammation which manifests in your body. At ABC Wellness & Rehab we can do a comprehensive dietary assessment based on the foods you are currently eating to help determine additional sources of inflammation.

3) SUPPLEMENTATION. Because Fibromyalgia has a metabolic component to it, nutrients essential to the Kreb’s Cycle (how your body converts food to use as energy) tend to be lacking in Fibromyalgia patients. So many people talk about calcium for bone health, and although it is important, it is not the only mineral your body needs. Magnesium (the so-called “forgotten nutrient” because it is often overlooked) is known to be deficient in Fibromyalgia patients. Other nutrients such as Manganese and Folic Acid should be supplemented as well. We can help you determine what you should be taking and how much.

4) STRESS. Stress promotes inflammation. We can measure the effects of stress on your body via simple lab testing. Implementing a protocol to combat such things as excess cortisol can be extremely helpful in overall management of this condition.

5) CANDIDA. Research points to a link between intestinal candidiasis (fungal infection) and the development of such conditions as Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. A comprehensive urine test to check for fungal and bacterial metabolites is available at our office.

Identifying these things that are contributing is the first step toward effectively managing such chronic conditions as Fibromyalgia. We can help!
