"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and the prevention of disease."

Since scoliosis usually becomes more obvious during the adolescent years, it is ideal to have children in pre- or early adolescence checked for this condition. Typically kids will not have x-rays of their spine during their younger years because back pain in children is not that common of a complaint. However, as the body goes through puberty, and developmental changes occur, the subtle onset of symptoms such as pain and stiffness are more likely. Screening consists of checking posture to make sure the shoulders are level and the hips are even. If a person’s knees or feet turn in or out, this can indicate a compensation for problems higher up in the spine. Uneven wear patterns in the shoes often correlate with these findings. Call to arrange a screening for that young person in your life today; they will be glad you did. And, if we identity something in its early stages of development, you will be glad too. »
