"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and the prevention of disease."

Invest Wisely

As a homeowner, you may have heard that your home is probably the largest investment you will make. Considering this fact, you are no doubt aware of how important routine maintenance is in order to protect the value of your investment.

Have you ever considered how important it is to invest in your health? Our body is the one “home” we are given to live in for the rest of our life. Unlike a house that can be bought and sold as we wish, our body is a permanent structure. We can “upgrade” and present great “curb appeal” by sporting a stylish new outfit, hairstyle, or makeup. Yet, if the structure, foundation, or internal systems are faulty, we may look good on the outside, but be deteriorating from within.

Autumn is often a time when we finish important home repair projects in order to prepare our homes for the winter. Likewise, this is a great time of the year to complete a health assessment to determine if any routine maintenance or repairs are needed on your body.

Consider the following checklist of symptoms for your “home” that require attention, and what they could mean:

1) FOUNDATION (Pain in the heel or arches of the foot)
If your foundation is faulty, your whole structure will be unstable.
2) FRAMEWORK (Low back pain, neck pain, knee pain or shoulder pain)
Pain is a sign of dysfunction, and may indicate your body is on the verge of collapse.
3) PLUMBING (Constipation, loose stools, stomach pain, bloating/gas)
These are signs of an unhealthy digestive system (your “plumbing”).
4) ELECTRICAL (Headaches, numbness and/or tingling in the extremities)  A disruption in your nervous
system (your body’s “electrical system”) interferes with the flow of energy to the whole house. You may have a “short” that needs fixing.
5) INDOOR AIR QUALITY (Brain fog; fatigue; sinus problems; sensitivity to chemicals, cigarette smoke or
musty places)

This may indicate that your body is toxic, that mold is present (Candida), or that you have an imbalance in your gut flora.

If you have any of the symptoms present, or if trying to repair them yourself is not adequately fixing the problem, schedule a time to have them looked at by a professional. Timely repairs can help prevent more costly damage in the future.

Did you know that National Chiropractic Month is observed in October? What a perfect time to evaluate your “home” and take care of any necessary repairs in order to maintain the value of your most important investment-your health.
