"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and the prevention of disease."

As young people are getting back into their normal school routines, the homework piles up and extracurricular activities turn into high gear. Sometimes the stress of due dates and practicing to get ready for the game/ competition can take its toll. Everyone wants to gain the competitive edge, right? Here are some tips that might just give your student the extra advantage: 1). EAT RIGHT. Proper diet is crucial to feeling and functioning your best. Eating a breakfast containing protein is a great way to start your day. A whole egg is an example of a food that contains amino acids that enhance brain function to enable you to maintain your focus. Another “brain food” is fish, and fish typically won’t fill you up, thereby making you more sluggish. Stay away from high carb, sugary foods such as the typical breakfast cereals – they will likely bring you down. 2). GET PLENTY OF SLEEP. Sleep rejuvenates the body. We all need that time of refreshment for the rest and repair of our body. Most school-aged children need a good 10 hours of quality sleep. And don’t stay up late cramming for that test. Go to bed and get up earlier the morning of the exam. You’ll retain more doing it that way. Finally, keep a regular routine of when you go to bed and when you get up. 3). GET ADJUSTED. Adjustments are not just for pain relief. Keeping your spine free from misalignments can be the difference between feeling your best and feeling “the blahs.” A treatment every month or two can make a noticeable change. |
